Clinical focus: General dentistry · Orthodontics · Restorations · Combined cases
Dr. Nhung Duong — known to international patients as Dr. Lynn — practises as both a general dentist and orthodontist within the Picasso Dental Clinic group. Her dual scope sits at the practical crossroads of two disciplines that often need to be coordinated in adult dental care: dental health stabilisation and tooth alignment.
Scope of practice
General dentistry. Routine dental health assessment, checkup and cleaning, composite fillings (from NZD 67 to NZD 200 at the May 2026 rate of 1 NZD = 15,000 VND), root canal treatment (NZD 167 for an incisor/canine, NZD 233 for a premolar, NZD 333 for a molar), and dental restorations. The general dentistry scope includes the work that often needs to happen before any planned orthodontic, cosmetic, or implant treatment can begin safely.
Orthodontics. Fixed metal braces (full course NZD 1,600 to NZD 3,067), self-ligating metal braces (NZD 2,267 to NZD 3,733), ceramic braces (NZD 2,400 to NZD 3,867), and Invisalign clear aligners (Essentials NZD 3,000 for 2 jaws, Lite NZD 5,333, Comprehensive NZD 8,667 to NZD 10,000). Picasso holds Platinum Elite Invisalign Provider status across the combined orthodontic team.
Why combined cases need dual-scope clinicians
Active decay, periodontal disease, and failing restorations are usually treated before orthodontic appliances are fitted. There are two clinical reasons:
- Detection and access. Aligners and fixed braces both make decay detection harder and access for treatment more complicated. A small interproximal lesion that can be filled in 20 minutes before braces go on becomes a more involved restoration if it has to be treated around brackets and wires.
- Oral hygiene burden. Aligner trays trap saliva and reduce natural cleaning; fixed braces add brackets and wires that hold plaque. Patients with marginal periodontal health before treatment often deteriorate during orthodontic treatment. Stabilising periodontal health first reduces that risk.
Picasso’s standard sequencing for combined cases is therefore:
- Dental health stabilisation (fillings, root canal where needed, periodontal cleans, replacement of failing restorations).
- Orthodontic treatment (Invisalign or fixed appliances).
- Any planned cosmetic redesign or restorative work (crowns, veneers, implants).
Dr. Lynn can manage phases 1 and 2 within a single clinician relationship. Phase 3 work is handed off to the cosmetic team (Dr. Emily Nguyen’s protocols, Dr. Rosie, or Dr. Anna) or the implant team (Dr. Phong, Dr. Hung), with the handover written into the staged treatment plan.
What treatment looks like for a New Zealand patient
For a typical combined New Zealand patient case — for example, “I want straighter teeth and I think I have two fillings that need replacing”:
- Submission. Photos and OPG to the free-quote form.
- Written NZD plan. Within 24 hours weekdays NZ time. Itemises restorative work, orthodontic appliance recommendation, total NZD figure, and staged in-Vietnam day count.
- Phase 1. Restorative work usually fits inside a 2 to 3 day trip if the case is small. Larger restorative phases (multiple fillings, root canal, etc.) may need 4 to 5 days.
- Phase 2. Orthodontic treatment. For Invisalign cases, can begin remotely from New Zealand with aligner shipments after the initial fitting; for fixed appliance cases, requires periodic in-person visits (typically every 6 to 8 weeks). The trip cadence is set in the plan.
- Final review. End-of-treatment assessment confirms the end-state matches the planning ClinCheck or fixed-appliance projection.
Where Dr. Lynn fits in the team
Dr. Nhung Duong is part of the general dentistry and orthodontic team alongside Dr. Thao Tran (general + orthodontist, Hamburg-trained), Dr. Huong Nguyen (cosmetic + orthodontist), Dr. Thuan Phung (orthodontist, 1,500+ cases), Dr. Toan Le (orthodontist), Dr. Duong Ho (French-trained orthodontist), and Dr. Mike Tran (general). Cosmetic protocols across the group are set by Dr. Emily Nguyen.
The free-quote coordinator routes combined general-plus-orthodontic cases to Dr. Lynn, Dr. Anna, or Dr. Rosie based on case shape and clinician availability. You can request a specific clinician in the message field.
What this means for a New Zealand patient
If your treatment plan is purely orthodontic (Invisalign or braces only), any orthodontist on the team can take the case. If you have outstanding restorative work that needs addressing first — failing fillings, marginal periodontal health, an old crown that needs replacing — and you want orthodontic correction to follow, Dr. Lynn’s dual scope keeps the case within a single clinician relationship through phases 1 and 2.

Frequently asked questions
What does Dr. Lynn treat at Picasso?
Dr. Nhung Duong practises as both a general dentist and orthodontist. Her general dentistry scope covers routine dental health assessment, checkup and cleaning, fillings (composite from NZD 67 to NZD 200), root canal treatment (NZD 167 incisor/canine, NZD 233 premolar, NZD 333 molar), and dental restorations. Her orthodontic practice covers fixed metal and ceramic braces and Invisalign clear aligners. Prices use the May 2026 rate of 1 NZD = 15,000 VND.
Will Dr. Lynn handle my combined case?
For New Zealand patients whose plan combines restorative work with orthodontics — for example treating decay before aligner therapy, replacing failing fillings before fixed appliance work, or staging crown work after orthodontic correction — Dr. Lynn's dual scope provides continuity within a single clinical relationship. The written NZD plan confirms named clinician assignment before flights are booked.
When does it make sense to treat dental health issues before orthodontics?
Active decay, periodontal disease, and failing restorations are usually treated before orthodontic appliances are fitted because orthodontic treatment can complicate detection and access. Aligners or fixed braces also make oral hygiene more demanding. Picasso's standard sequencing for combined cases is dental health stabilisation first, then orthodontic treatment, then any planned cosmetic redesign. Dr. Lynn can manage the first two phases within a single clinician relationship.
Does Dr. Lynn do Invisalign?
Yes. Dr. Nhung Duong manages Invisalign cases as part of her orthodontic scope. Picasso Dental Clinic holds Platinum Elite Invisalign Provider status across the combined orthodontic team — the highest tier Align Technology awards. Picasso Invisalign pricing as of May 2026: Essentials (2 jaws) NZD 3,000, Lite (2 jaws) NZD 5,333, Comprehensive NZD 8,667 to NZD 10,000.
Does Dr. Lynn speak English?
Yes. Dr. Nhung Duong conducts consultations with New Zealand patients in English. All Picasso clinicians providing video consultations to international patients speak English. Picasso Dental Clinic works with patients in English and Vietnamese only.
How does the free-quote process route to Dr. Lynn?
When you submit photos and an OPG to the free-quote form or to the central coordinator team reviews the case and assigns the clinician whose scope fits. For combined general-and-orthodontic cases, Dr. Lynn (or Dr. Anna, or Dr. Rosie) is a natural assignment. You can request a specific clinician in the message field — the team accommodates the request where the case fits.
