Meet the Dentists — Picasso Dental Clinic team treating New Zealand patients

The clinical team behind Picasso Dental Clinic — Dr. Emily Nguyen (cosmetic), Dr. Tran Thanh Phong (implantology), Dr. Hung Le Ba Gia (implants), Dr. Thuan Phung (orthodontics) and colleagues — treating New Zealand patients in Vietnam since 2013.

Picasso Dental Clinic's team includes specialists in implantology (Dr. Tran Thanh Phong, 15,000+ implants since 2001, first All-on-4 immediate loading in Vietnam in 2010, Nobel Biocare clinical representative since 2007; Dr. Hung Le Ba Gia, 1,000+ implants and 200+ All-on-4 cases), cosmetic dentistry (Dr. Emily Nguyen, Founding Clinical Director, sets cosmetic protocols across all six branches), and orthodontics (Dr. Thuan Phung, 10+ years and 1,500+ cases). All clinicians practise under the standards Dr. Emily Nguyen established when she founded the clinic in 2013. Every New Zealand patient is assigned to a named clinician with relevant specialist experience — not a generalist rotating through procedures. As of May 2026, the team has treated over 70,000 patients from 62 countries.

Every treatment plan at Picasso Dental Clinic is assigned to a named clinician with relevant specialist experience. For New Zealand patients, this means your implant case is handled by an implantologist, your veneer case by a cosmetic dentist, and your orthodontic treatment by an orthodontist — not a generalist rotating through procedures.

Our team has collectively treated patients from over 62 countries. English is spoken across the full clinical team that manages international cases.

How the team is structured

Picasso operates as a single clinical group with six branches and one set of protocols. The clinical leadership sits with three named seniors:

  • Dr. Emily Nguyen (Founding Clinical Director) sets cosmetic and general protocols across all six branches. She founded the clinic in 2013 and led the 2023 rebrand to the Picasso name. Cosmetic case acceptance, the Portrait Sitting workflow for veneers, and the patient review process for international patients are all her work.
  • Dr. Tran Thanh Phong (Head of Implantology) sets implant and full-arch protocols. He performs the complex implant work — full-arch All-on-4 and All-on-6, zygomatic cases, large bone grafts — and oversees the implant team across all branches.
  • Dr. Hung Le Ba Gia (Lead Implant Specialist) leads single-implant and standard All-on-4 work, particularly at the Da Nang branches. He handles most straightforward implant cases for New Zealand patients.

The orthodontic team — Dr. Thuan Phung, Dr. Toan Le, Dr. Huong Nguyen, Dr. Duong Ho, and Dr. Nhung Duong — manages braces and Invisalign cases. Picasso holds Platinum Elite Invisalign Provider status, the highest clinical tier, reflecting combined orthodontic team volume.

General and restorative dentistry is delivered by Dr. Thao Tran, Dr. Nhung Duong, and Dr. Mike Tran, alongside the specialist team when treatment plans combine cosmetic, surgical, and routine work.

How you are matched to a clinician

You do not pick a clinician from a list. When you submit photos and your OPG through the free-quote form or by email to [email protected], the central team reviews your case and assigns the clinician whose specialty fits. The clinician’s name is in your written NZD treatment plan before you book flights — not introduced for the first time when you walk into the clinic.

If you specifically want to work with a particular clinician — for example because you have read their profile or seen their case work — note the request in the message field on the free-quote form. The team will accommodate the request where the case is within that clinician’s specialty.

What gets published, what does not

Every Picasso clinician page lists the facts we can verify in the clinical register: role, specialty, confirmed training institutions, and confirmed case volumes. We do not publish:

  • Graduation years we cannot verify against transcripts.
  • Branch assignments (the central team rotates clinicians; published branch claims would become inaccurate).
  • Procedure attributions beyond the specialty listed.
  • Marketing accolades from third parties we cannot audit.

Where a fact is not on a profile page, it is because we do not have it on file in a form we are willing to publish. See safety/dentist-credentials/ for the full credentialing approach.

Next step

Read each clinician’s profile below, then either book a free 20-minute video consultation or request a written NZD quote. The quote process matches you to the right clinician automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Who founded Picasso Dental Clinic?

Dr. Emily Nguyen (Nguyễn Thị Vân Anh) founded what is now Picasso Dental Clinic in 2013 — originally opened as Serenity International Dental Clinic in Hanoi. After private equity investment, she led the group's 2023 rebrand to the Picasso name, overseeing its expansion to six branches across Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Lat. She remains the Founding Clinical Director and personally sets cosmetic protocols across all branches.

Who is the lead implant specialist at Picasso?

Dr. Tran Thanh Phong is Head of Implantology at Picasso Dental Clinic. He has practised implant dentistry since 2001 (25+ years), placing approximately 600 implants per year for a career total exceeding 15,000. He was the first Vietnamese dentist to perform All-on-4 immediate loading (2010) and has completed over 1,000 All-on-4 cases. He has performed 400+ zygomatic implant cases since 2017 and trained at Loma Linda University in California (2010). Nobel Biocare clinical representative in Vietnam since 2007. Dr. Hung Le Ba Gia (Lead Implant Specialist) leads single-implant and standard All-on-4 cases independently.

How are New Zealand patients matched to a clinician?

The Picasso central team assigns each New Zealand patient to a clinician based on treatment type and case complexity. Cosmetic cases (veneers, smile makeovers, whitening) go to Dr. Emily Nguyen's cosmetic team. Implant and All-on-4 cases go to Dr. Tran Thanh Phong or Dr. Hung Le Ba Gia. Orthodontic cases (braces, Invisalign) go to Dr. Thuan Phung, Dr. Toan Le, Dr. Huong Nguyen, Dr. Duong Ho, or Dr. Nhung Duong. General dentistry goes to Dr. Thao Tran, Dr. Nhung Duong, or Dr. Mike Tran. You can request a specific clinician in the free-quote form.

What training do Picasso clinicians have?

All Picasso clinicians hold DDS qualifications and practise under Vietnamese Ministry of Health licensing. Specific training listed where confirmed: Dr. Tran Thanh Phong (Loma Linda University, 2010), Dr. Thao Tran (University of Hamburg, Germany), Dr. Duong Ho (French dental training). Specialty case volumes are listed on each clinician's profile page (e.g. Dr. Phong's 15,000+ implants, Dr. Hung's 1,000+, Dr. Thuan's 1,500+ orthodontic cases). The team has collectively treated patients from over 62 countries.

Which clinician will treat me before I travel?

Clinician assignment is confirmed in your written NZD treatment plan, which the coordinator team prepares within 24 hours of receiving your photos and OPG. If your case needs a clinical opinion before you commit to travel — for example complex implants, bone grafting, full-arch reconstruction, or significant cosmetic redesign — the coordinator will arrange a free video consultation with the treating dentist at no extra cost. You will know the clinician's name, specialty, and case history before you book flights.

Does the same clinician handle all stages of my treatment in Vietnam?

For most treatments, yes — the assigned clinician manages your case from the in-person examination through to final fitting. For full-mouth cases combining implants and cosmetic work, your case may pass between the implantology team (Dr. Phong or Dr. Hung) and the cosmetic team (Dr. Emily's team), in which case the treatment sequence and handover points are written into the plan. The branch coordinator oversees continuity for every overseas patient.

What languages do the dentists speak?

All clinicians providing video consultations to New Zealand patients speak English. Patient coordinators are bilingual English-Vietnamese. Picasso Dental Clinic works with patients in English and Vietnamese only. French and Russian are not supported. If you need a particular accent or pace of English on the call, advise the coordinator and they will pair you with a clinician whose English is most comfortable for you.

Does Picasso publish each dentist's credentials?

Yes. Each named clinician has a profile page under /team/ listing role, specialty, case history (where confirmed), and where applicable named training institutions. The /safety/dentist-credentials/ page summarises the credentialing approach. We do not invent training claims or graduation years — only facts present in the Picasso clinical register are published.

How long has the team been treating overseas patients?

Since the clinic opened in 2013 (then as Serenity International Dental Clinic). The international patient program has been a focus from the beginning, with English-language coordination, OPG and CBCT imaging in-house, and named-brand materials specifically because overseas patients need verifiable records to take home. Total international patients treated: over 70,000 from 62 countries.
