Brittany is 29, a Hamilton content creator who films herself for a living — beauty and lifestyle clips, several a week, all close-up and all under bright light. Her front teeth had always sat slightly uneven, with a greyish older bonding repair on one central incisor that picked up oddly under ring light and that she had learned to hide by angling her head. After two years of editing around her own smile, she decided to fix it properly. What mattered most: how they’d read on camera

Brittany’s brief was unusual and specific. In her words from the post-trip survey: “I didn’t want Hollywood-white. I’ve seen what flash does to those — they go flat and chalky, like a row of Tic Tacs. I needed teeth that still looked like teeth when I’m two inches from the lens.”

The pre-trip conversation was built around that:

• Material: Lisi, a lithium-disilicate press ceramic with layered translucency, so the veneers keep depth under bright and flash lighting instead of flattening out.
• Shade: a half-step down from the brightest available, chosen so the result read as healthy rather than bleached on camera.

She also asked about recourse, and we covered the written warranty and travel reimbursement terms before she booked.

The 10-day trip

Filming with the temporaries was the step she valued most. “Being able to see how the shape actually moved on video before anything was permanent — that’s the part nobody warns you exists, and it’s the most important part.”

What it cost end-to-end

Against an NZ benchmark of NZD 16,000 to NZD 20,000 for 8 veneers from a Hamilton private clinic, the gross saving was NZD 9,600 to NZD 13,600, and the net saving after travel was NZD 5,850 to NZD 9,850.

She wrote off the trip days as a content shoot — she filmed Hanoi between appointments and got three weeks of posts out of it.

The thing she didn’t expect

In her words: “I thought the temporaries would look obviously fake on camera and I’d have to stop posting for the week. They didn’t. They were good enough that I filmed normally the whole time, and honestly a couple of those clips performed best. I was bracing for a downgrade and it was the opposite.”

We have started keeping a small note for creator patients on exactly this, because the temporaries week is the one most of them dread for the wrong reasons.

What aftercare looked like back in Hamilton

Brittany booked her own NZ dentist for a bite check before she flew out, so it was locked in. The appointment was 3 weeks after she got home. Her dentist checked the occlusion, confirmed the margins, and signed the case off. We received the report and filed it.

She has had one 6-monthly clean since, reported as clean, with the next check scheduled.

Brittany’s three pieces of advice

From her survey response:

1. “If you work on camera, bring your own light to the design session and ask to shoot test shots of each shade. The shade that looks great in a mirror is not always the one that films well.”
2. “Don’t rush the temporaries. Live with them, film with them, and speak up if a single edge bugs you. Day 5 was when I asked for the change that made it right.”
3. “Treat it like a real trip, not a quick errand. I gave myself the full ten days and stayed relaxed. Friends who try to compress it into five always seem stressed.”
