What to send

Six phone photos cover most cases.

Good indoor light beats professional photography. Add an OPG if you're considering implants, full-arch work, or complex crowns — but it isn't required for a first estimate.

What you get back

A quote should reduce uncertainty, not create it.

When to stay local

Don't fly with an urgent problem.

Swelling, fever, severe pain, uncontrolled bleeding, trauma, or any unstable medical condition needs a NZ dentist or doctor first. Elective treatment overseas is for stable cases — we'll tell you plainly if yours isn't one yet.

Frequently asked questions

What phone photos do I need?

Six photos: front smile (relaxed, straight on), front retracted (lips pulled back so teeth and gums show), right bite (teeth together, side view), left bite (same angle, other side), upper arch (mouth open, camera angled upward), and lower arch (mouth open, camera angled downward). Good indoor light is enough — no professional photography, no ring lights, no special angles. Most cases can be priced accurately from these six alone.

What is an OPG and do I need one?

An OPG (orthopantomogram) is a panoramic dental X-ray that shows every tooth, both jaws, the sinuses, and the temporomandibular joints on a single image. It is optional but significantly speeds up implant, All-on-4, and complex crown assessments. Ask your New Zealand dentist for a copy of any OPG taken in the last 2 years, or any imaging centre can take a new one for around NZD 100 to NZD 150. Photos alone are enough for cosmetic work like veneers, whitening, or composite bonding.

Is the quote binding?

It is a clinical estimate based on your photos and OPG. The final treatment lines and pricing are confirmed after in-person examination at the Picasso clinic in Vietnam or after a video consultation with the treating dentist. If anything changes after examination — for example a bone graft is required that did not show on the original OPG — you will see the revised figure in writing before any treatment begins. There are no surprise bills at the end.

Will the quote be in NZD or VND?

Every quote for a New Zealand patient is in New Zealand dollars, itemised per tooth, per implant, per scan, or per arch. The exchange rate used as of May 2026 is 1 NZD = 15,000 VND, and the rate is printed on the plan so you can verify the maths. The clinic accepts payment by Visa or Mastercard POS card in Vietnam, by Vietnamese bank transfer, or by VND cash on site at the bank rate on the day of payment.

How long does a quote take to come back?

We aim for 24 hours, weekdays New Zealand time. Vietnam is 5 to 6 hours behind New Zealand, so a morning New Zealand submission often reaches our coordinator team during our working afternoon. Complex multi-treatment cases (combined implants and cosmetic, or full-mouth reconstruction) can take up to 48 hours because the case is reviewed by the relevant specialist before the figure is finalised. Our team will also offer a free video consultation with the treating dentist within the same window if your case warrants it.

Which treatments can I get a quote for?

Veneers and smile makeovers (Emax Press, Lisi, composite, non-prep Emax), dental implants (Osstem, ETK, Neodent, Nobel Biocare, Straumann, Straumann BLX), All-on-4 and All-on-6 full-arch restorations, Invisalign and braces, crowns and bridges (Zirconia, Lava, Emax, ORODENT), teeth whitening (Zoom!, Beyond, Pola Office, Opalescence), dental cleans, root canal treatment, full-mouth reconstruction, sedation dentistry, mouthguards, and combinations of the above. If you are not sure what you need, describe your goals — the coordinator will advise.

How do I send my photos?

Submit the form on this page. Our team will reply by email and you can send your dental photos straight back to [email protected] — that reaches the coordinator team directly. Please do not send photos through Facebook Messenger or Instagram DM — those channels are not monitored by the clinical coordinators.

How much cheaper are dental implants in Vietnam compared to New Zealand?

A single Nobel Biocare or Straumann implant at Picasso Dental Clinic costs NZD 2,667 (fixture, abutment, and crown combined) at the May 2026 rate of 1 NZD = 15,000 VND. The same implant system at a New Zealand private practice typically costs NZD 6,000 to NZD 9,000. An All-on-4 full-arch using Osstem implants starts from NZD 8,333 at Picasso, compared to NZD 28,000 to NZD 50,000 at New Zealand clinics for the same case. Saving is meaningful from approximately NZD 4,000 in treatment value because flights and accommodation absorb smaller savings.

What implant brands does Picasso use?

Picasso Dental Clinic stocks Straumann, Straumann BLX, Nobel Biocare, Osstem, ETK, Neodent, and SIC. All fixtures come with manufacturer documentation including lot number, fixture diameter and length, and surgical date. Nobel Biocare and Straumann carry 10-year crown warranties. Osstem carries a 5-year crown warranty. No brand at Picasso carries a lifetime warranty. The treating dentist recommends the brand based on bone volume on CBCT, jaw position, the prosthetic design required, and your budget.

How long does a dental trip to Vietnam need to be?

A single-implant placement typically takes 3 to 5 days on the ground in Vietnam. All-on-4 full-arch restorations need 5 to 7 days minimum for placement and fit of the temporary arch. Veneers (10 units in Emax Press) generally take 5 to 7 days. Invisalign begins remotely after a digital scan, with no fixed Vietnam stay required. Complex full-mouth cases needing implants plus veneers may require two trips. Your free quote includes a personalised trip-length estimate including buffer days for recovery and any second-trip requirement.

Is it safe to have dental work done in Vietnam?

Picasso Dental Clinic has treated over 70,000 patients from 62 countries since 2013. The clinic uses the same internationally manufactured implant and crown materials available in New Zealand and Europe — Emax, Lava, Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem, Invisalign. Sterilisation follows ISO standards using autoclaves with batch testing. Digital imaging (OPG, CBCT, iTero) is in-house at each branch. Picasso declines cases that are not clinically suitable for international travel rather than book them anyway. Read the full safety guide at /is-it-safe/ and our honest risks page at /safety/honest-risks/.

Does New Zealand health insurance cover dental treatment at Picasso?

Most New Zealand health insurance policies — including Southern Cross, nib, Accuro, UniMed, Police Health, and HCF — exclude overseas elective dental treatment from their standard cover. Some may cover non-dental medical emergencies during travel. Picasso provides itemised invoices in both NZD and VND for any claim you wish to lodge. Whether coverage applies depends on your specific policy wording — check your insurer's terms before travelling. ACC does not generally fund elective overseas dental work.

What warranty do veneers and implants come with?

Emax Press porcelain veneers carry a 7-year warranty. Lava and Lava Plus crowns carry 10-year warranties. ORODENT crowns carry 10 years. Zirconia and porcelain-fused-to-titanium crowns carry 5 years. Nobel Biocare and Straumann implant systems carry 10-year crown warranties; Osstem carries 5 years. Composite veneers carry 6 months. No brand at Picasso carries a lifetime warranty. Warranty documentation is issued at treatment completion as part of the English records pack. See /warranty/ for terms and the claim process.

Can patients from outside Auckland get a quote?

Yes — the quote process is fully remote. Patients from Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Dunedin, Queenstown, Napier-Hastings, Palmerston North, Nelson, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Whangarei, Invercargill, and any other New Zealand city can submit photos and receive an itemised NZD plan by email. Direct and one-stop flights to Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City operate from Auckland year-round; regional patients usually connect via Auckland (NZD 1,400 to NZD 2,800 return depending on season).

What languages does Picasso work in?

Picasso Dental Clinic works with patients in English and Vietnamese only. All patient coordinators, quote correspondence, and treatment documentation are in English. French and Russian are not supported. If English is not your first language, please advise the coordinator — they can keep written communication simpler and slower if helpful.

Who reviews the quotes before they are sent?

Dr. Emily Nguyen, Founding Clinical Director of Picasso Dental Clinic, sets the cosmetic case-acceptance protocols. Implant and full-arch quotes are reviewed by Dr. Tran Thanh Phong (Head of Implantology) or Dr. Hung Le Ba Gia (Lead Implant Specialist). Orthodontic quotes are reviewed by Dr. Thuan Phung. Every overseas quote passes through a treating-dentist sign-off before the coordinator sends the NZD figure.

What if the case is not suitable for travel?

Picasso will tell you in plain English in the same email. Cases that do not make sense to travel for include a single filling, a single clean, acute pain, an unstable medical condition, or any treatment under approximately NZD 4,000 in total value where flights would erase the saving. You will not be pressured into booking. The clinic prefers an honest 'stay home' than a refunded patient.

How long is the written quote valid?

The written NZD plan is valid for 90 days at the quoted exchange rate (1 NZD = 15,000 VND as of May 2026). If you proceed within that window, the NZD figure is honoured. Beyond 90 days, the rate is re-checked against the prevailing bank rate and the figure is adjusted only if the rate has moved materially. Clinical pricing in VND does not change without notice within the validity period.
